Advanced Diploma In Hospitality And Tourism Management (Singapore Qualification)

1. INTRODUCTION

The Hospitality and Tourism industry is one of the most promising and rapidly developing service sectors worldwide, particularly in Southeast Asia and Vietnam. With the revival of tourism markets after the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for skilled professionals in this industry is steadily increasing to compensate for the workforce that shifted careers or left their jobs due to the pandemic’s impact. This demand is especially prominent for highly qualified professionals.

The Advanced Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management (ADHTM) programme is conducted in collaboration with Pegasus International College and SISH Institute (Singapore), leading students to a qualification awarded by SISH. It provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare for a global career in this booming hospitality industry. The programme equips students with adaptable critical thinking skills, essential insights and up-to-date knowledge about the core functions of the hotel and tourism industry. Students gain exposure to modules of study that focus on various aspects of food and beverage service, accommodation, hotel operations, tourism planning and development. With the set objectives, upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate relevant operational skills in various types of hospitality organisations.
  • Research, organize and critically analyze information for further application or dissemination.
  • Apply business principles to various management scenarios in the hospitality industry.
  • Demonstrate attainment of prescribed goals through organising, motivating, coordinating and collaborating with peers.

Through this programme, students will accumulate the necessary practical skills and knowledge in both Vietnam and/or Singapore work environments to hone their professional capabilities, enhance their values and increase opportunities for successful employment in Vietnam and other countries upon graduation.

  • Completion of High School Qualification (or its equivalent)

  • Training ApproachThe curriculum and pedagogy of the course focus on the development of learners’ skills and competencies so that they are able to transfer the gained knowledge and skills into their performance at the workplace. The method of teaching consists of multiple delivery dimensions such as classroom lectures, group discussions, case studies, career preparation workshops, role-plays, individual and group tutorials, presentations, and assessments. Tutorials, both individually and in groups are an essential channel for developing each student’s direction.

    QualificationThe Advanced Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management awarded by SISH Singapore Institute is internationally recognized. It provides a pathway to Bachelor’s and Master’s programs at Vatel International Business School Hotel & Tourism Management (France). This programme also provides a recognized pathway for students into several university degree programmes.

    Employees in various service departments of hotels, travel companies and tour operators.

    Supervisors in service departments, including first-line and mid-level managers (depending on the accumulation of experience) in various hotel divisions such as restaurants, banquets/events, accommodations, etc.

    Hotel/resort operations managers/restaurant managers.

    Hotel owners/restaurant owners/business owners in the lodging and F&B service industry.

    Additionally, students will have the ability to self-study and pursue further education to meet their career requirements for future advancement.

    3. Marketing Policy, Planning, and Communication
    4. Service Quality and Business Communication
    5. Financial Accounting
    6. Professional Development and Career Planning
    7. Hotel Operations 8. Food and Beverage Operations

    Year 2:

    1. Sustainable Tourism, Planning and Development
    2. Human Resource Management
    3. Organizational Behavior
    4. Quantitative Methods for Business Management
    5. Economics for Business
    6. Managerial Accounting
    7. Food and Beverage Operations Management
    8. Hotel Operations Management
    9. Industrial Attachment

    To graduate and achieve the qualification, students must meet the following requirements:

    • Attend a minimum of 75% of the contact hours for each module.
    • Attend all assessments and complete the Industrial Attachment requirements
    • Adhere to legal and disciplinary regulations during the course. Comply with the rules and regulations of the organization in which the student interns during the industrial attachment.
    • Any student who drops out of the industrial attachment prematurely without valid reasons or who is terminated by the organization on disciplinary grounds would be deemed to have failed the entire course and not able to graduate from the programme.

    a) What are the admission requirements for the Advanced Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management programme?

    • Admission requirements:
    • High School graduation or equivalent
    • TELTS 5.5 or equivalent

    * Students who do not have English certification will take the English Placement Test, and will be enrolled in the English Foundation course, before entering the main programme.

    b) If students do not have an IELTS 5.5 certificate or its equivalent, can they still enroll?

    If students do not have English certification, they will take the English Placement Test at Pegasus, and will be enrolled in the English Foundation course before entering the main programme.

    c) How does the tuition fee in Vietnam differ from the fee at SISH Singapore?

    Students can choose between two study pathways at Pegasus:

    • A 2-year programme at Pegasus with a total tuition fee of VND135,000,000.
    • Studying the first year at Pegasus with a tuition fee of VND79,000,000, followed by the second year at SISH in Singapore with a tuition fee of approximately SGD$8,650 (equivalent to around VND 154,000,000)

    d) With an Advanced Diploma awarded by SISH Institute, can students articulate to universities in the UK, USA, and Australia instead of getting a Bachelor's Degree?

    Students can articulate to study the Bachelor programme with university partners of SISH as listed below:

    • University of Derby (UK) (1 year)
    • University College Birmingham (UK) (1 year)
    • Western Sydney University (Australia) (1.5 years)

    e) What are applicable job positions after graduation?

    Graduates are able to apply for the following roles: 

    • Staff of hotel services departments (Front Desk/ Reception; Housekeeping; Restaurant/ Bar/ Catering.
    • Supervisors in services departments.
    • Middle managers and senior executives in hotel departments such as Restaurant, Events, Reservations (depending on the accumulated career experiences).
    • Restaurant Owner/ Manager.
    • Hotel Operations Manager/ Resort Manager.
